The old grocery store east of the Woodwards has fallen. It took me quite by surprise: on the way in to work I waited for the bus to let me off at my usual drop off and was wondering why the bus was stopped... in what seemed like such a random location... then wondering why people were looking at me like I was totally out of it. The trouble with navigating with landmarks in a big city is that they seem to keep bashing them down. I think I heard a quip somewhere that linked the amount of development taking place with the strength of the local economy. Can't say it makes me feel that much better.

My old corner store, one that I used to visit when I was 6 (it was *shock* 6 blocks away from my house so I got in trouble for wandering too far a few times) was recently demolished by developers to build a new condo.

Even if it's unfair and in the end better for the city, it makes me a little bitter to see my old haunts disappear into memory. Eh, better there anyways right? Nothing to tarnish the rosy tint on old memories.
