Tomorrow night I fly out to Singapore. Unfortunately I'm still sick. I caught this terrible cold on Saturday night and have been dragging myself around since then. Blah. I was lying on my bed in the hostel, snuffling away, when one of my roommates, a British girl, finally noticed me and said "Are you ok, love?" to which I replied "I'm siiiiiickkkk" :( She gave me some drugs and I fell into a drug-induced sleep. The next day I had to be up early for a tour. The tour basically consisted of driving for 5 hours, taking a one hour walk along suspension bridges nestled in the trees, then driving again for 5 hours, returning home at 11pm. All the while I was sniffling away, coughing, basically feeling like crap. Ugh. But I did meet a nice Torontonian, a CA who works at one of the Big Four so it was still a nice day out. When I returned to the hostel, I felt like my head was going to explode and I must have looked terrible since people in the hostel were commenting that I didn't look so good. Ugh. I fell asleep, only to wake up every couple of hours to try to breathe. :(
The next day I dragged myself to the pharmacy where I got some cold medicine. Oh the miracles of modern medicine! I felt half -human and managed to go about my day. I called Tanya in China where we made arrangements for my upcoming trip. Should be interesting.
Yesterday I had another tour (yippee last one!) which had many more stops than the previous tour. We went to a winery, a lighthouse where the Indian Ocean meets the Southern Ocean, an eagle rehabilitation centre and visited some caves. Pretty neat. I also met a woman from Singapore who gave me some tips on my visit to Singapore. Oh, how I am looking forward to Singapore, not because I'll be in another country but because I HAVE MY OWN ROOM!!!! Oh joyous occasion! I don't even care that this hotel is 1.5 star, in the red light district and is probably falling apart, the important thing is that I won't have 7 roommates so I can sleep in peace. Nobody dragging themselves in drunk at all hours, no snoring roommates, nobody playing music while I'm clearly trying to sleep. Yippee! I am so excited, I can't wait. I'm sure I'll crash when I get there, since my flight is at 1am and arrives at 6am. Yawn.
It's going to be a tough couple of days...Lots of people at the hostel are leaving this week, a group of us have been there for a couple weeks. Seems like there's drinking going on every night until the wee hours. I'm not taking part, I'm just too sick. Since I have a 3 day hike in Thailand next week I think it's better to get some rest rather than drink away my last couple days in Australia. zzzz....
So tomorrow I leave. I'm still sick, the hostel manager commented today that I don't look very well. Ugh. I wish I could just sleep for a few hours but it's impossible with 7 roommates who walk in and out all day long.
