Levitation that already does this mixing of audio and photo. I'm starting to feel like a multimedia capture tank. My enflaming desire would be to have wind-proof unidierctional mikes shoulder mounted with a
Marantz PMD660 on the hip. Not bloodly likely that that's going to happen soon: I need new socks and I think I just gave myself 3rd degree burns making pizza.
This image was taken along
Granville street... whose name always ticked me off for some reason. I assume it was loosely from french "Grande Ville" meaning great city. Would it of killed them to keep the "de"? Was there an implied insult in there somewhere? A bunch'a olde lassies with dirty knickers liveth here? If that were the case, it's successfully proved that insult wrong and along with Robson street has become one of the main culture/entertainment drags in the city. (Aside from sporting a fine array of adult toy and peep shows markets towards the water. Something for everyone! Captain Vancouver would of been proud... and pleasured)
For this shot, while I was interested in just the neon, I wanted to see if I can capture a bit of the life too... I need a better microphone that doesn't go spazzy everytime the wind sneezes on it. Still, walking along, I tried to pick up conversations that pass in and out of range. I was secretly hoping for an
"overhead in new york"* moment but all I got were some people talking about getting the heave-ho from bars by bouncers and stuff like that.
I did get one conversation on campus where a guy was repeatedly exclaiming WHALES' PENISES???? ... Golly gee... Incidentally, have you seen the
Icelandic Phallological museum, they apparently have 38 specimens of Whale penises on hand for viewing...?
